Gardens with a Twist
A huge THANK YOU from the bottom of my heart to everyone who checked out my Blog! I really appreciate you taking the time to do so, and I shall work hard at making it a better and more interesting Blog.
A couple of days ago, I went to the Gardens by the Bay, a nature park located in southern Singapore at Marina Bay. It comprises several attractions like the Heritage Gardens, Supertree Grove and The World of Plants. I headed for the Flower Dome, which houses a permanent display of Mediterranean flora.
The Flower Dome Conservatory replicates the cool dry conditions of the Mediterranean regions like Spain and Italy, and also South Africa and California. It smells absolutely lovely in there, and the cool environment is a respite from the heat outside.
Lastly, a mention about the Supertrees. They're vertical gardens ranging from 25-50 meters tall. There are eighteen of them, all home to enclaves of unique and exotic ferns, orchids, bromeliads and vines. There's even a Supertree-top Bistro where you can chill and enjoy the surrounding views. I didn't have time to check it out, which is fine, as I plan to visit the Gardens again..and again. My photographs really don't do it justice, so do check it out when you're in town. It'll take your breath away...

A Day at the Museum
On a rainy day last Sunday, I headed out to the Singapore National Museum, snapping pictures along the way. The museum was relatively empty that afternoon. I followed a guided tour for about 10 minutes, then ventured off on my own to explore the different exhibits located on three floors.
My favorite section was the Living Singapore Galleries which showcased a collection of artefacts, photographs and memorabilia on life in Singapore, dating back to the 1940s. I was most surprised to learn that from the 1950s to the 70s, the male-female ratio was about 10:1. As such, street food sold by hawkers became essential in feeding the male bachelor population.
I ended my visit at the Novus Cafe where I had an overpriced iced tea and then a quick stop at the gift shop, where I bought a box of recycled paper pencils. Here are a few more images from the museum. Thanks again for stopping by, I really appreciate it...
My First Post
Welcome to my Blog! And thank you so much for visiting. Most people blog about things they know or do well. My blog is neither. Despite calling Singapore "home" since 2000, I realize there's so much I haven't seen or done in this island-city. So I thought it might be fun to explore Singapore and share my findings on this Blog. To be honest, I never thought I'd ever have a Blog of my own. I'm not tech-savvy at all, in fact, I had to enlist the help of my seven-year-old to open Safari. My iPhone intimidates me. I'm not on Facebook and I probably check my e-mails three times a year max. Despite all that, I woke up one morning last week and thought "Let's do this!" and before I could talk myself out of it, I registered a name for the Blog and here I am. Please join me on my little adventure...
